The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Kingsley Y. Wong (ASN: 39926496), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 80th Infantry Division in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 4 October 1944, in France. While manning a light machine gun position, he was suddenly attacked in the rear by the enemy. Despite an immediate demand to surrender under the threat of enemy machine pistols, Private Wong assisted in turning the machine gun completely around and opened fire upon the enemy, effectively silencing them. Throughout the heavy fire fighting, Private Wong’s coolness and courage enabled him to make his way back to his platoon which had withdrawn. His personal bravery and sincere devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
