Headquarters, 80th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 23 (August 25, 1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Technical Sergeant George B. Page (ASN: 34166265), United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States while serving with the 80th Infantry Division on 13 August 1944, in France. An Army vehicle, while passing a halted convoy of which Sergeant Page was a member, struck an enemy mine causing an explosion which spread burning gasoline on two enlisted men and set fire to another vehicle. Sergeant Page, by use of a fire extinguisher tried to save the life of one enlisted man and definitely risked his own life by remaining in the area of the burning vehicles, as small arms ammunition was being discharged from one of the vehicles and there was danger of the gasoline tank exploding on the other. Sergeant Page left the area only after being ordered to do so by a commissioned officer. The courageous action of Technical Sergeant Page reflects credit on himself and the military service.
