The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private Glen S. Hallman (ASN: 6297662), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 27th Infantry Division at Saipan, Mariana Islands, on 1 July 1944. While advancing toward a strategic hill, heavy machine gun and sniper fire was encountered from a ridge to the right. When one of the soldiers was critically wounded by machine gun fire in both legs, Private Hallman, with complete disregard for his own safety, exposed himself to the enemy fire and ran to the aid of the wounded man and prepared him for first aid treatment. He remained by the soldier’s side until first aid had been accomplished and then assisted in his removal to a safe area. A few days later, Private Hallman, with the aid of another soldier, successfully guided tanks through enemy territory where he was constantly under heavy enemy rifle and machine gun fire. When his comrade was critically wounded, Private Hallman ran to his aid. Seeing that the soldier was beyond help he continued on his mission of guiding the tanks into an area where the enemy positions could be pointed out and fire placed in this area. This action resulted in almost complete neutralization of an enemy strongpoint and prepared the way for further advance.
