The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Technician Third Grade Robert B. Bower (ASN: 20252531), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as a Medical Aidman with the 27th Infantry Division at Saipan, Mariana Islands, on 4 July 1944. Technician Third Grade Bower went forward after being warned of enemy fire, to administer to three wounded men who lay wounded forward of our front lines and under direct vision of the enemy. He had taken care of one man and was taking care of the second when he was struck in the heart by enemy sniper fire. His actions were above and beyond the call of duty and his unselfish devotion to his branch of service was a direct inspiration to all officers and enlisted men in that sector.
