(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Master Sergeant James B. Cooper, United States Army, was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action while serving with the 9th Military Police Company, 9th Infantry Division, in the Republic of Vietnam. After the vehicle in front of him was ambushed, Sergeant Cooper immediately exposed himself to enemy fire while driving to aid the wounded and radioing for aid. Manning a .50 caliber machine gun, he brought withering fire on the enemy until reinforcements arrived. He helped in the medical evacuation of the wounded and led a sweep through the area, personally capturing a number of detainees.
