The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to First Lieutenant (Military Police Corps) Arnold Ray Flook (ASN: 0-1798919), United States Army, for heroic action in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving as Special Agent Counter-Intelligence Corps with the 181st Counter-Intelligence Corps Detachment in the Hagaru-ri, Korea area on the morning of 7 December 1950. Lieutenant Flook, although directed to a position of comparative cover and safety, chose to enter the fire fight to repulse the enemy attack on the motor convoy he was riding in. Through his aggressive action, he was personally responsible for killing at least twenty of the enemy although he was exposed many times to enemy small arms, automatic weapons, hand grenades and mortar fire. By his actions he was a genuine inspiration to the officers and men fighting with him. His aggressiveness and complete disregard for his personal safety were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
