The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Jeremy H. Graves (ASN: 12067534), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division in the period from January to April 1943. When his squad leader was severely wounded by enemy machine gun fire, Private Graves, with the aid of another enlisted man, successfully evacuated him from a position well exposed to constant enemy mortar and machine gun fire. Private Graves’ heroic action was instrumental in saving the life of his fellow soldier. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
