The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Richard E. Bever (ASN: 13001935), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company M, 3d Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division in the period from January to April 1943. Private Bever, during three days of continuous action, personally manned a 37-mm. anti-tank gun under heavy enemy fire. His coolness in action and the accuracy of his fire were directly responsible for the destruction of enemy installations seriously hindering the advance of our troops and vehicles. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
