The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class William F. Hall (ASN: 35129419), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 27th Infantry Division at Nafutan Point, Saipan, Mariana Islands, on 21 June 1944. Private First Class Hall, while under enemy mortar, machine gun and sniper fire, moved ahead of his platoon and exposed himself in an effort to locate the enemy positions. The information he was able to pass back proved invaluable in the later neutralization of these positions. Such exposure while others in his vicinity were seeking all available cover cost him his life.
