The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Joseph Carillo (ASN: 39113551), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 27th Infantry Division at Saipan, Mariana Islands, on 28 June 1944. Private Carillo went to the assistance of a seriously wounded soldier, by running through heavy enemy fire and applying a tourniquet. His fearlessness and courage shown in his valiant effort to save the life of his comrade was an outstanding act of gallantry.
