Headquarters, 27th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 50 (July 30, 1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Irving S. Broner (ASN: 32402983), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 27th Infantry Division at Saipan, Mariana Islands, on 27 June 1944. Seeing a wounded soldier lying unattended ion a burned-out cane field, Private First Class Broner left the safety of his position in the rear to go forward to assist the wounded men. Heedless of the heavy enemy mortar, machine gun and rifle fire which concentrated on him as a target, he brought the wounded man back to safety. The wounded man was found to be in a serious condition and paralyzed by the wound. The action of Private First Class Broner undoubtedly saved his life.
