The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal George S. Triebel (ASN: 20213083), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 27th Infantry Division at Saipan, Mariana Islands, on 7 July 1944. In the early morning, the infantry unit which Corporal Triebel’s party had accompanied was savagely attacked by the enemy while they still occupied the perimeter defense of the past night. Corporal Triebel remained at his radio transmitting sensings from the artillery liaison officer to his battery. Through his efforts the artillery fire was effective to the maximum degree.
