The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Airman’s Medal to Airman First Class Rudolph G. Sherlowsky, United States Air Force, for heroism involving voluntary risk of life at Waterfront Park, Medical Lake, Washington, on 26 June 1979. On that date, with complete disregard for his own safety, Airman Sherlowsky unhesitatingly swam 50 yards and dove to a depth of 20 feet in abnormally cold water to locate a drowning victim. His humanitarian efforts resulted in the successful rescue of the drowning victim. The exemplary courage and heroism displayed by Airman Sherlowsky reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
