The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Airman’s Medal to Technical Sergeant Scott D. Leatham, United States Air Force, for heroism involving voluntary risk of life at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, on 11 April 1979. On that date, Sergeant Leatham rushed to the area where an aircraft had just crashed during take off. With complete disregard for his own safety, and despite the hazard of burning fuel, Sergeant Lindsay unhesitatingly entered the impact area and assisted in humanitarian rescue efforts at peril to his own life until he succeeded in removing an injured victim to a place of safety. The exemplary courage and heroism displayed by Sergeant Leatham reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
