William Taylor was interned as a Prisoner of War after he was wounded when his helicopter was shot down on March 20, 1968. On May 6, U.S. helicopters attacked the camp where he was being held, unaware of his presence. He was again wounded but managed to escape and crawled to a clearing to hail the American aircraft. When one of them came in closer he grabbed the skid but was shot off. The helicopter returned and the crew pulled him aboard, flying him to safety.
