The youngest of six children in the Moretti family, Edward Moretti studied in Rome, Italy, for six years and was ordained a Catholic Priest at Santa Maria Maggior in 1960. He served parishes in East Boston, Massachusetts, and was pastor at Saint Lazarus Church there, before entering military service as a U.S. Army Chaplain. After training, he deployed served with the 82d Airborne Division, and then deployed to the 1st Cavalry Division in Vietnam in 1968. Following the war he became pastor of Saint Joseph Church in Bradenton, Florida, and in 1987 became founding pastor of Saint Peter and Paul the Apostles, in Bradenton, serving there until his death in 2010. In July 2010, Pope Benedict XVI bestowed on him the honor and title of Monsignor Protonotary Apostolic Sumpernumerary.

Chaplain Moretti distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions from 1967 to 1968, while serving as Chaplain of the 1st Cavalry Division, on a combat mission in the Republic of Vietnam. Chaplain Moretti’s extraordinary heroism in close combat against an enemy force is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the 1st Cavalry Division, and the United States Army.
