The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Musician Robinson Barr Murphy, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 28 July 1864, while serving with Company A, 127th Illinois Infantry, in action at Atlanta, Georgia. Being Orderly to the brigade commander, Musician Murphy voluntarily led two regiments as reinforcements into line of battle, where he had his horse shot under him.
