The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Captain Alex S. C. Wadsworth, United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States while assigned the duty of the planning and supervision of construction of advanced bases in Australia, from 2 February 1942 to 2 March 1943 and later, as a member of the Staff of Commander Southwest Pacific Force, in the establishment and maintenance of advanced bases in Australia and New Guinea. Captain Wadsworth discharged his important responsibilities with great skill and initiative during the critical period of the war. By his tireless efforts, outstanding professional ability, exercise of sound judgment and broad vision, Captain Wadsworth contributed materially to the successful prosecution of the war, reflecting great credit upon himself. His outstanding service and performance of duty were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
