(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Specialist Robert E. Parson, United States Army, for gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force while serving with the 1st Battalion, 501st Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division, in action on 26 August 2009, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. Private First Class Parson continuously placed himself in constant exposure to enemy fire while attempting to recover his wounded squad leader. Private First Class Parson was struck and suffered wounds from enemy forces. Despite his wounds, he held his position throughout the engagement to allow fellow platoon members to recover the wounded Soldier. Specialist Parson’s gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the 25th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
