    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Executive Order 11046, 24 August 1962, takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star to Staff Sergeant Craig S. Sotebeer, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious service as a Platoon Sergeant while conducting combat operations from 14 August 2007 through 7 November 2008, during Operation IRAQI FREECOM. Staff Sergeant Sotebeer’s actions contributed immeasurably to the success of building a free and democratic nation for the citizens of Iraq and to the efforts to win the Global War on Terrorism. Staff Sergeant Sotebeer’s professionalism and commitment to excellence reflect great credit upon him, the 2d Stryker Cavalry Regiment, Multi-National Division-North, and the United States Army.

    The Secretary of the Army of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Army Commendation Medal with Combat “V” to Sergeant Craig S. Sotebeer, United States Army, for valor and extraordinary achievement during ground combat operations against enemy forces in a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device incident at Forward Operating Base SUMMERALL, Iraq, on 1 June 2004. Without regard for his own safety, Sergeant Sotebeer immediately moved into an unsecured area to treat and evacuate over 30 Iraqi casualties. Additionally, he controlled and supervised a chaotic scene by directing personnel to perform proper combat casualty care and evacuation. His actions were performed well above his grade level and medical scope of practice. Sergeant Sotebeer’s bravery and dedication to his fellow soldiers on the battlefield upholds the finest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon him, Task Force DRUMFIRE, and the United States Army.
