The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Specialist Fifth Class John Francis Huske (ASN: RA-19650736), United States Army, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations on 9 February 1965, in the Republic of Vietnam. At 2010 hours the Bachelor Enlisted Quarters at Qui Nhon, Republic of Vietnam was subjected to a Viet Cong terrorists attack as the insurgents placed heavy explosive charges at the front and rear of the building. The explosive toppled the building, trapping many occupants in the rubble. Specialist Huske immediately and without regard for his own safety, set about the task of crawling through the twisted wreckage searching for survivors. Throughout the night and early hours of the following day Specialist Huske continued rescuing survivors from the shifting and settling wreckage. Specialist Huske’s gallantry was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Army and reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
