The President of the United States of America, authorized by Executive Order 11046, 24 August 1962, takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal to Staff Sergeant Jerry M. Hurst (ASN: RA-14768251), United States Army, for meritorious service in connection with military operations against a hostile force during the period June 1968 to December 1968, while serving concurrently as Material Release Expediter and Petroleum, Oil and Lubricant Coordinator, Supply Division, Headquarters Commandant, United States Military Assistance Command, Vietnam. Throughout his tenure, Staff Sergeant Hurst displayed a thorough knowledge of his realm of responsibilities and constantly effected a number of innovations which greatly enhanced the operational effectiveness of the Supply Division. His conscientious attention to detail, when combined with his competent ability and outstanding initiative, enabled him to achieve continued success in his typically professional manner. Acting on his own initiative, Sergeant Hurst utilized all available assets and made a significant contribution to the success of the United States mission in the Republic of Vietnam. Staff Sergeant Hurst’s performance of duty was in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
