The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade Clarence V. Eddy (ASN: 35375599), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters Company, 68th Tank Battalion, 6th Armored Division, in action in France, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Germany during the period from 27 July 1944 to 8 May 1945. As a reconnaissance scout, he demonstrated great courage, initiative and sound tactical judgment. On one occasion near Pontivy, France, on 4 August 1944, he drove his platoon sergeant twenty miles into enemy territory on a reconnaissance to discover the only bridge in the sector that was not destroyed. He thereby enabled the combat command to cross the river and contributed greatly to the success of the Division. His outstanding courage, aggressiveness and coolness reflect great credit upon himself and the armed forces.
