The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Cavalry) Dean M. Mohr, Jr. (ASN: 0-1010370), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters Company, 68th Tank Battalion, 6th Armored Division, in the vicinity of Bizory, Belgium, on 8 January 1945. During an intense enemy artillery and mortar concentration directed at his position, an ammunition dump was set on fire. With complete disregard for his personal safety in the face of heavy artillery and mortar fire, he extinguished the fire. His prompt action and coolness under fire saved an important tactical installation and much ammunition, thus reflecting the highest credit upon himself and the military service.
