The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Lieutenant Colonel (Infantry) Pierce Thomas Graney, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States from July 1985 to June 1987 while serving as Senior Mechanized Infantry Task Force Combat Trainer, Operations Group, National Training Center, Fort Irwin, California. Colonel Graney’s sound judgment, technical competence, and professionalism impacted on every aspect of training and set a standard for professional excellence that had a marked effect on the leaders and organizations of the Training and Doctrine Command and the Forces Command. Colonel Graney’s outstanding service reflects great credit upon himself, the National Training Center, and the United States Army.
