The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Private Robert Fulton Dodd, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 30 July 1864, while serving with Company E, 27th Michigan Infantry, in action at Petersburg, Virginia. While acting as orderly, Private Dodd voluntarily assisted to carry off the wounded from the ground in front of the crater while exposed to a heavy fire.
