The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Medical Corps) Robert J. Linehan (ASN: 0-360913), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as a Medical Officer with the 27th Infantry Division, in action at Saipan, Mariana Islands, on 21 June 1944. While the Battalion Command Post and Aid Station to which he was assigned was under intense naval gunfire, Captain Linehan exposed himself constantly to treat the wounded in the area, giving plasma and morphine to the numerous casualties, and supervising the evacuation of the wounded with a great degree of coolness and efficiency. His action under fire doubtlessly saved many lives.
