The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Distinguished Service Medal to Rear Admiral Milo Frederick Draemel, United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious service in a duty of great responsibility during the early phases of the war. Rear Admiral Draemel aided immeasurably in the promulgation and furtherance of detailed plans for the reorganization of the Fleet to meet the Japanese threat. By his comprehensive knowledge, broad vision and executive ability he was able to render invaluable assistance in preparing the Fleet for effective and sustained action against the enemy. His tireless energy and steadfast devotion to accomplishment of a vital task were contributing factors in the success of the Fleet at the Battle of Midway.
