The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Lieutenant Colonel (Coast Artillery Corps) Linscott Alden Hall (ASN: 0-20681), United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States in Italy from 25 October 1943 to 1 August 1944. During the critical period of the establishment of anti-aircraft artillery in Italy, Lieutenant Colonel Hall assumed command of the 434th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion, which was undergoing conversion to a new type of unit. Training in the new equipment was necessary and urgent, and Lieutenant Colonel Hall applied himself to this task with outstanding ability and enthusiasm. Within a short time his battalion was thoroughly trained and sent into combat where it thereafter served with distinction under his superior leadership. Through his untiring efforts and professional skill Lieutenant Colonel Hall maintained and improved the tactical and technical proficiency of his command, thereby reflecting great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
