Charles Pattillo served as a P-51 Pilot in World War II, as did his identical twin brother Cuthbert who was shot down over Germany and taken as a Prisoner of War. Charles Pattillo was credited with destroying one enemy aircraft in aerial combat. After the war he left active duty briefly and joined the Georgia Air National Guard. As did his brother, in the early 1950s Charles Pattillo helped to organize and flew with the SKYBLAZERS, an aerial exhibition team in Europe. During the Vietnam War he flew 120 combat missions as an F-4 Phantom pilot. He retired as a U.S. Air Force Lieutenant General on June 1, 1981. His twin retired the previous year as an Air Force Major General.
