The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal (Army Design) to Major General Thomas Patrick Gerrity (AFSN: FR-1613), United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility, as Commander, Air Materiel Command Ballistic Missile Center, from 21 July 1960 to 1 April 1961; and as Commander, Ballistic Systems Divisions, Air Force Systems Command, from 2 April 1961 to 30 June 1962. In these important assignments, General Gerrity’s demonstration of exceptional competence, superior ability and dedicated devotion to duty resulted in vital contributions to the security of the United States. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Major General Gerrity reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal (Army Design) to Lieutenant General Thomas Patrick Gerrity (AFSN: FR-1613), United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility, as Deputy Chief of Staff, Systems and Logistics, Headquarters, United States Air Force, from 1 July 1962 to 30 April 1965. During this period, General Gerrity’s exemplary foresight, forceful leadership, and devotion to duty were significantly displayed in directing the myriad functions inherent to his assignment. In an era of dynamic and demanding advances in space, missile, and weapons systems, General Gerrity has made outstanding contributions which greatly enhanced the capability of the Air Force to fulfill its massive world-wide logistical requirements. His display of exceptional managerial ability, initiative, and resourcefulness in directing the Air Force Cost Reduction Program resulted in a vastly improved logistics capability and with substantial monetary savings; thereby exceeding by a significant margin the goals established by the Department of Defense. His singularly distinctive accomplishments in support of the Untied States Foreign Mutual Assistance and Technical Security Programs caused a marked increase in the effectiveness of the Air Force portions of these vital programs. Lieutenant General Gerrity’s achievements are in keeping with the highest standards of performance and traditions of the military service, and reflect favorably upon himself and the United States Air Force.

The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Captain Gerrity, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces.
