The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal to Brigadier General Harry J. Dalton, Jr., United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States. General Dalton distinguished himself as Director of Information, Office of the Secretary of the Air Force, from 6 April 1977 to 18 May 1979. During this period, he established new standards of dedicated leadership, invaluable contributions were made to public understanding of the need for a strong Air Force and a dynamic national defense. Under his guidance and counsel, Information professionals led Air Force people, worldwide, to a broader comprehension of basic issues affecting the Nation. His imaginatively conceived and capably executed community relations program brought to millions of Americans a new appreciation for Air Force life and purposes. Concurrently, his actions contributed immeasurably to the professional development and personal well-being of those who served under his able direction. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of General Dalton reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
