The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal to Brigadier General Marcus A. Anderson, United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States. General Anderson distinguished himself as Commandant of Cadets, United States Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado, from 1 July 1984 to 19 June 1986. In this critical position, General Anderson was directly responsible for improvements to the Academy’s professional development curriculum and training programs. His personal drive and commitment to excellence resulted in a continuing upgrade to cadet dormitories, unprecedented expansion of cadet airmanship programs and airfield facilities, and a dramatic improvement in pride, morale and esprit de corps within the Cadet Wing. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of General Anderson reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
