The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal to Major General George K. Anderson, United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States. General Anderson distinguished himself as Commander, Headquarters Human Systems Center, Air Force Materiel Command, Brooks Air Force Base, Texas, from 15 December 1990 to 29 July 1994. During this period, General Anderson was the architect for change, result in Air Force-wide improvements and efficiencies that will continue for decades. During a period of major national challenges and dramatic change, General Anderson’s vision and guidance ensured Human Systems Center customers were provided the best possible products and services. His emphasis on quality-focused activities and his leadership style make the Human Systems Center and Brooks Air Force Base the center for Air Force environmental activities and the new location for the Air Force Center of Environmental Excellence. As a valued community leader, his involvement in the local public school community has significantly enhanced the quality of education for area students. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of General Anderson reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
