The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal to Brigadier General Andrew Broadus Anderson, Jr., United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States. General Anderson distinguished himself as Commander, Air Division Provisional, 57th, from 1 June 1972 to 4 January 1973. During this period, General Anderson’s outstanding achievements and his dynamic leadership and initiative played a major role in the development of the largest strategic air operation in the history of the Southeast Asia conflict. General Anderson personally directed strategic bombardment operations of unprecedented magnitude against an opposing armed force and against one of the most heavily defended areas in the world today. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of General Anderson reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
