The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal to Major General Donald O. Aldridge, United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States. General Aldridge distinguished himself as Commander, 1st Strategic Aerospace Division, Vandenberg Air Force Base, California, from 20 September 1986 to 31 August 1988. During this period, General Aldridge’s outstanding leadership and dedication to excellence resulted in significant contributions to the nation’s deterrent posture through the successful testing of intercontinental ballistic missiles and related systems, through the training of missile launch officers, and through the support of Air Force System Command’s research, development, and space launch programs. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of General Aldridge reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
