The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to Captain Jesse Lee Perkins (MCSN: 0-757), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism in the line of his profession while serving with the First Provisional Brigade of Marines (Gendarmerie d’Haiti), 19 May 1920. With total disregard of personal danger Captain Perkins attached almost single-handed a band of about seventy-five armed bandits of the Mirebalais District, resulting in the death of the greatest of the bandit leaders, Benoit Batraville, and the practical suppression of the disorder in the District.
