The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class John E. Wolf (ASN: 33235098), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 80th Infantry Division in Luxembourg, on 24 December 1944, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States. At Heiderscheid, Luxembourg, on 24 December 1944, Private First Class Wolf, a truck driver, had advanced with ammunition and supplies in support of his platoon during an enemy attack. A sudden withdrawal to better positions left him isolated and surrounded by enemy. Single-handedly, he fought and repulsed three enemy assaults until aid arrived and his truck and supplies were saved. Private First Class Wolf’s courage, aggressiveness, and devotion to duty are commensurate with the highest traditions of the armed forces of the United States.
