The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Milton Warren (ASN: 36558765), United States Army, for gallantry in the action while serving with Company G, 2d Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action in the vicinity of Colleville-sur-Mer, Normandy, France, on 7 June 1944. When his company’s assault on a vital objective was checked by intense mortar and small-arms barrage, Private Warren fearlessly displaced his weapon forward to an exposed vantage point and delivered accurate automatic fire against the strongpoint. Despite the concentrated enemy fire returned upon his position, he courageously remained at his gun and inflicted severe causalities upon the hostile defenders, thereby enabling comrades to advance and seize the objective. Private Warren’s aggressive and gallant actions exemplify the fighting spirit of the American soldier and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
