The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant William John Vincent, Jr. (ASN: 39295318), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 335th Infantry Regiment, 84th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Belgium, on 9 January 1945. When the advance of his company was temporarily halted by fire from two emplaced enemy tanks, Sergeant Vincent, together with another soldier, under heavy machine gun and small arms fire, voluntarily crawled within thirty-five yards of one tank and knocked it out with a well-placed shot from their rocket launcher. The team then maneuvered into another position and were in the act of firing on the second tank when Sergeant Vincent w wounded by sniper fire. The courageous action and daring initiative displayed by Sergeant Vincent, accounting for one enemy tank and materially aiding the advance of his company, reflect the highest credit upon himself and the military service of the United States.
