The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Sam A. Trepasso (ASN: 32001444), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company G, 2d Battalion, 60th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division. On ** March 1943, near ******, Tunisia, Private First Class Trepasso volunteered to lead a patrol forward under intense artillery and machine gun fire from the enemy, for the purpose of deceiving the enemy in order to permit his platoon to withdraw. With utter disregard for his own personal safety, he deliberately exposed himself to the enemy and drew their fire. While he was thus engaged his platoon withdrew without the loss of a single man. Private First Class Trepasso’s heroic action greatly inspired the members within the command. His gallant actions and selfless devotion to duty, without regard for his own safety, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
