Headquarters, 9th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 84 (September 25, 1943)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Henry D. Tomilo (ASN: 32029793), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company **, 60th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division. On ** April 1943, at ********, Tunisia, it was necessary to remove a wounded comrade across an open ground which was covered by grazing enemy machine gun fire. That this might be accomplished, Private Tomilo exposed himself and taunted the enemy thus drawing their fire at the risk of his own life. This brave act enabled his wounded comrade to be evacuated safely to the rear. Private Tomilo’s gallant actions and selfless devotion to duty, without regard for his own safety, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
