The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private William G. Taylor (ASN: 32611848), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as a Medical Aidman with Company F, 5th Ranger Infantry Battalion, in action from 3 to 4 December 1944, during the assault on Lauterbach, Germany. Throughout the fierce action, this gallant soldier moved fearlessly about under mortar and artillery concentrations, exposed to continuous small arms fire, giving aid and comfort to the wounded. His cheerful attitude and conspicuous courage were inspirational to his comrades, and his heroic accomplishments and supreme devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military service, reflecting great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
