The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private Arnold G. Simolke (ASN: 363661651), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as a Machine Gunner with Company C, 61st Armored Infantry Battalion, 10th Armored Division, at Offenbach, Germany, on 22 March 1945. When a fierce enemy attack threatened to annihilate his platoon, Private Simolke bravely advanced toward the enemy forces, dispersing them with machine gun fire to enable his platoon to reorganize and proceed on its mission. His gallant achievement reflects great credit upon himself and the military forces of the United States.
