The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Eugene L. Sieben (ASN: 37231407), United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while serving as a Medical Aidman with the 39th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division, in action in the vicinity of Troina, Sicily, on 4 August 1943. Observing a seriously wounded man lying exposed to intense enemy machine gun fire, Private Sieben left his place of cover and proceeded to the injured man’s aid. His courageous behavior undoubtedly saved the man’s life.
