The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to First Lieutenant (Signal Corps) Everett W. Shadden (ASN: 0-496183), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Detachment 7, 166th Signal Photographic Company, 90th Infantry Division. The conspicuous courage Lieutenant Shadden displayed while photographing an engagement of the 90th Infantry Division on 22 July 1944, near Hay, France, distinguishes him as an outstanding officer. Lieutenant Shadden was killed by an exploding enemy mortar round while performing his mission. His determination and supreme devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
