The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Raymond C. Schaeper (ASN: 33947759), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company K, 385th Infantry Regiment, in action against the enemy on 5 April 1945, at Truppenhausen, Germany. Private Schaeper ran across an open space under heavy enemy small-arms fire to a burning house and, reaching it, carried out a severely wounded man. Moving again across the fire-swept area, though wounded by the enemy fire, he carried the soldier on to a first-aid station. Private Schaeper’s courage and devotion to his wounded comrade reflect great credit on himself and the military service.
