Headquarters, 30th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 142 (June 5, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Francis F. Roberts (ASN: 32998998), United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving with the 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action in Germany, on 24 March 1945. Private Roberts braved extremely heavy enemy fire to go to the aid of a wounded comrade who he noticed lying in the open and in need of immediate medical attention. He carried his comrade across two hundred yards of open terrain and succeeded in getting him to the comparative safety of a house where he received treatment. Private Roberts’ great heroism saved the live of the wounded man. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Roberts, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
