The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technical Sergeant Donald J. Reid (ASN: 33055041), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as a Platoon Sergeant with Company B, 20th Armored Infantry Battalion, 10th Armored Division, at Launstrof, France, on 22 November 1944. When his platoon was pinned down by hostile fire, Technical Sergeant Reid braved fierce enemy fire to direct an orderly withdrawal of his forces. His gallant achievement reflects great credit upon himself and the military forces of the United States.
