Headquarters, II Corps, General Orders No. 32 (May 2, 1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Lloyd M. Platt (ASN: 18030011), United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving with the ** Field Artillery Observation Battalion, in action at ****, Italy. On ** December 1943, the observation post which Corporal Platt was occupying was taken under fire by a battery using time fire. On his own volition, Corporal Platt remained on his post and successfully adjusted fire on the hostile battery which had been previously located. After the completion of this mission he shifted fire to the battery that was shelling his position. As nearly as could be ascertained, both hostile batteries were neutralized. His courage in remaining at post throughout a heavy high burst of shelling and his skill in adjusting fire exemplify the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
